I Said “I Need Some Time Alone” Without Turning It Into a Joke

Dear Delyara, Usually, when I need space, I soften it into humour, overshare the reason, or make my need so carefully digestible that by the time it reaches the room it barely resembles the truth anymore. I have spent too long trying to make my limits emotionally painless for everybody else. This time I didn’t. I just said it. I need some time alone. No dramatic explanation. No guilt-soaked cushioning. No pretending I was “just popping upstairs” or “just doing something quickly” when what I really needed was emotional distance from human contact before I became a worse version of myself through overuse. That honesty felt clean. And rare. And like the beginning of a better relationship with my own capacity.
