My Diary

I said “maybe next month” at the shop and knew it meant no

Dear Delyara, My daughter asked for something small. Not ridiculous. Not spoiled. Just one of those little girl things that feels very important at the exact age she is now. I looked at the price, smiled, and said, “Maybe next month.” She nodded. I could tell she understood more than I wanted her to. That moment stayed with me all evening. Because the hardest part of money strain, for me, is not only going without. It’s feeling your children learning the shape of your limits before you wanted life to teach them. It’s hearing your own careful voice and knowing it is carrying more than one small refusal inside it. I don’t want them to fear money. I also can’t fully hide what it does to the house. That tension hurts in places I can’t explain neatly.
