The AwakeningSelf Love

I said no before I was angry enough to think I had earned the right

Dear Delyara, Usually I wait until I am nearly resentful before I let myself call a boundary by its proper name. I seem to believe I need stronger evidence than simple low capacity before I am allowed to protect it. This week I didn’t wait that long. I said no while I was only tired. While the request was still reasonable. While the other person still thought I might say yes. I felt guilty afterward, of course. But beneath the guilt there was something firmer too — relief, and a faint respect for myself I recognized immediately. Maybe that is what self-love looks like in adult life. Not grand declarations. Timely refusals.
