I said the humiliating truth and she didn’t make me smaller for it

Dear Delyara, I told her I’d been feeling behind. Not the tidy version. The embarrassing version. The comparison. The jealousy. The way certain rooms make me feel like everyone else became an adult more elegantly than I did. The grief of being tired in public and the shame of how much I still want things I haven’t built yet. The ugly, private version I usually clean up before I let it near another person. She didn’t rush me toward wisdom. She didn’t say not to compare in a tone that would have made me feel childish for telling the truth. She didn’t use perspective to flatten the pain before it had even been fully seen. She stayed kind. That mattered. Because what saves me now is not people who admire my strength. It’s people who don’t change temperature when I stop being impressive.
