My Diary

I sat in the car after work because I could not go straight into family mode

Dear Delyara, The street was quiet, the engine was off, and I just stayed there with both hands on the steering wheel like I had forgotten the next instruction. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to go home. I just didn’t want to arrive there half-made and immediately become useful. Work had been people-heavy. One awkward conversation with a colleague, one rude customer, too many interruptions, not enough lunch, and that strange emotional numbness that comes when you’ve smiled through more than you wanted to. I knew the house would have its own needs waiting — dinner, questions, noise, practical life. I just needed five minutes where no one wanted the next thing from me. So I stayed in the car. No crying, no grand reflection, no beautiful healing moment. Just one tired woman refusing to let the next shift start before the first one had properly left her body. When I went inside, I was softer than I would have been otherwise. That counted.
