My Diary

I sat in the car for ten minutes before going inside

Dear Delyara, I got home from work and just sat in the car. Engine off. Hands in my lap. Street quiet. I had no reason to stay there except the truth, which is that I didn’t want to go inside yet. I didn’t want to become fully alone with my own mind. That sounds dramatic now that I’m writing it, but I think a lot of people do this in one form or another. They delay the next part of the day because they know that once the door closes, there will be no more distractions between them and whatever they’ve been holding back. Eventually I went in. I made dinner. I answered one message and ignored two. I stood in the kitchen longer than necessary. Tonight just feels lonelier than it should.
