I sat in the GP waiting room without inventing ten new illnesses in my head
Dear Delyara, That is progress, and I want to honour it. I used to be terrible in waiting rooms. Every cough, every poster on the wall, every delayed appointment, every symptom memory would start breeding fear in my head. By the time my name was called, I had often scared myself more than the appointment itself ever could. This week was different. I brought a book. I read three pages. I looked at the window. I noticed I was nervous, but I didn’t build a whole horror film around the nervousness. I just waited. Sometimes healing is so undramatic that if you’re not careful you miss it completely. I don’t want to miss this.
