Small JoysQuiet Moments

I sat in the parked car for five extra minutes before going inside

Dear Delyara, Usually I’d call that avoidance. Yesterday it felt like kindness. The house was waiting, yes, but so were the dishes, school forms, dinner decisions, laundry, and all the small practical realities of family life. I turned the engine off and just stayed where I was. Rain on the windscreen. My own breath. Nobody asking anything for five whole minutes. It was such a tiny pocket of quiet, but it changed how I entered the evening. I came in less sharp, less resentful, less like I’d been stolen from by the day. Maybe peace doesn’t always need a retreat. Sometimes it needs a parked car.
