My Diary

I sat on the bed in my coat

Dear Delyara, I got home and didn’t even take it off. I just sat there on the edge of the bed with my bag still on my shoulder and my coat still buttoned, staring at nothing in particular, because I couldn’t make the switch into home mode fast enough. The day was still in me. Work, traffic, one rude interaction, one heavy conversation, the tiredness of too much talking. That’s what no one tells you about adulthood. Sometimes the hardest thing is not the work itself, but the emotional gear change afterward. Eventually I stood up and took the coat off. It felt like removing another person’s day from my body.
