My Diary

I Saw My Own Reflection in the Dark Window and Looked More Responsible Than I Felt

Dear Delyara, It was after sunset, and I caught myself in the window over the sink. Not fully, just enough — my face, shoulders, the movement of my hands drying dishes. What struck me was not age exactly. It was responsibility. The reflection looked like a woman who knew how to keep things going. And that felt strange, because inside I still so often feel unfinished, uncertain, half-overwhelmed, and not nearly as composed as my face apparently suggested in the glass. Maybe that is one of the oddest parts of this stage of life. The outside can look reliable while the inside still feels full of loose ends and unprocessed things. I kept drying the dishes and watched my own reflection for one second too long. It felt like witnessing a version of myself the world knows better than I do.
