I spoke before the room moved on without me

Dear Delyara, Usually, in those moments, I hesitate too long. I think about whether it’s worth saying, whether I’ll sound sharp, whether I’ve understood it properly, whether I should let it pass and deal with it later. But later almost always means never, and then I carry the whole thing home feeling angry at myself for being polite in the wrong place. This time I didn’t wait. I spoke while the moment was still alive. I corrected what needed correcting. My voice shook slightly, but I said it clearly enough that no one could pretend not to have heard me. I walked out of that meeting feeling taller. Not because I won anything grand. Because I did not abandon myself in real time for the comfort of the room.
