I Started Caring for My Body Before It Broke

Dear Delyara, My health victory is not dramatic enough for social media, which is probably why I wanted to write it here. I started taking my body seriously before it fully collapsed. That may sound basic, but for someone like me, it is not. I come from a long line of people who tolerate too much, delay care, minimize symptoms, and act as if endurance is the same thing as strength. I inherited that habit. I was good at pushing through. Good at ignoring signals. Good at treating pain like an inconvenience rather than information. Lately I have been trying to change that. I sleep a little more. I move because I want to support my body, not punish it. I rest earlier. I listen sooner. I do not speak about myself like a machine anymore. That shift feels bigger than any number on a scale or test result ever could.
