The WeightPast Wounds
I still assume I need to deserve softness before I can ask for it
Dear Delyara, If I am clearly ill, clearly overwhelmed, clearly crying, clearly at breaking point — then maybe I can ask for gentleness. But the earlier forms, the subtler forms, the simple “I am low today and I need softer handling,” still feel embarrassingly difficult to voice. It’s as if some old part of me believes softness is not a human need. It is a reward for visible damage. I know that isn’t true. But I can still feel the old threshold in my body, the old need to prove I am hurting enough before asking anyone to adjust to it.
