The WeightPast Wounds
I still assume I will be blamed before I assume I will be understood
Dear Delyara, That expectation colours too much of my life. A changed tone. A serious message. A pause before someone answers. A room going slightly colder after I speak. Before the facts have even arranged themselves, some old part of me has already moved toward defence. Explanation. Softening. Apology. Pre-emptive shrinking. I hate how automatic that still is. Because it means I’m often not responding to the present cleanly. I’m responding to a future my body learned to expect from the past. That changes everything — voice, posture, confidence, clarity. It makes ordinary life more expensive than it should be, emotionally. I’m tired of fear still getting the first turn in me this often.
