I still become carefully translated around family

Dear Delyara, I don’t think anyone watching from the outside would notice it. The change is too subtle. Tone shifts. Honesty gets softened. Reaction gets edited. The sharper truths stay in the mouth and the smoother versions leave it instead. All of it happens quickly, almost automatically, as if the nervous system still knows an older map of safety there. That’s what tires me in family spaces. Not always conflict. Translation. I’m tired of being so practiced at it.
