The WeightGuilt

I still feel guilty for becoming unavailable before I become resentful

Dear Delyara, That should count as wisdom. Instead, it still feels like guilt. If I step back early, reduce access, protect my tone, lower my availability before I hit the sharper version of tiredness, some part of me still reacts as if I’m doing something morally questionable. As if goodness means staying reachable until the inside is almost scraped clean. I know better than that. I really do. But knowing doesn’t erase training. And my training still says that if I withdraw before collapse, I’m probably being selfish. That if I preserve myself too soon, I’m depriving someone of a version of me they were entitled to have. That is a brutal belief. And I can still feel traces of it all over my daily decisions. I want a different internal ethic now. One where protecting the conditions under which kindness survives is also considered kindness. Some days I live from that ethic. Other days guilt gets there first.
