The BondDivorce
I still feel the emptiness most in the ordinary corners of the day
Dear Delyara, Not in the dramatic moments. Not on anniversaries. Not when someone mentions his name. It’s in things like carrying the groceries in alone. Or hearing a joke and having no automatic person to turn toward first. Or realising I am the only adult now who notices the bins need to go out, the laundry is piling up, the child is quieter than usual, the tap is dripping, the letter needs answering. The absence lives in practical places. That’s what surprises me. I think divorce grief is not only about losing the person. It is about losing the shape their presence gave to ordinary tasks, even when the marriage itself was already frayed by the end. The house still remembers having two adults in it. So does my body.
