I Still Feel Too Reachable By Criticism In Ways That Don’t Match My Age Or My Knowledge

Dear Delyara, I know intellectually that not every criticism is truth. I know not everyone deserves access to my self-worth. I know how projection works. I know about insecurity, manipulation, tone, power, family systems, all of it. And still, one sharp sentence in the wrong voice can still get under my skin far too quickly. That tells me the wound is older than the wisdom. And older wounds do not always bow politely before insight just because a woman has learned the right language for them. I can still feel criticism in my body long after my mind has argued it down. That’s what hurts. The mismatch between what I know and what I still feel so fast.
