I still leave family rooms more edited than I entered them

Dear Delyara, That’s what I noticed most recently. I enter with an intention to be natural. I leave realizing how much I edited. Tone, truth, reaction, opinion, even silence. It all gets adjusted a little more than I want it to in family spaces. Not because anyone is always terrible. Because history is there. Old expectations are there. The nervous system already knows things before the conversation begins. It’s possible to love people and still become less fully yourself around them. That truth feels more common than we admit.
