I still miss the ordinary witness of a shared evening
Dear Delyara, It’s the evenings I feel most sometimes. The ordinary witness of them. Another rhythm in the room. Another pair of small preferences. Another person who knows the unremarkable version of how the day landed without needing a full explanation. I think grief changes shape over time, and what remains is often not the big dramatic story but the quiet architecture of being accompanied. That is what I still miss. Not always the person as a whole. The witness of shared ordinary life. That absence has its own loneliness.
