The WeightPast Wounds

I still over-explain before anyone has misunderstood me

Dear Delyara, It’s become so polished in me it can almost pass for personality. The careful phrasing. The extra context. The “what I mean is…” before anyone has even responded. The constant shaping of my own truth into something less likely to be received badly. It sounds measured. It sounds mature. A lot of the time, it is just fear in better language. I don’t want every honest sentence to arrive carrying a whole little legal team behind it. But that is still how many of mine come out, especially when I am tired, emotionally exposed, or speaking to someone whose tone I don’t fully trust. That is what old wounds do. They turn ordinary communication into a pre-defensive act.
