I still take disrespect home with me
Dear Delyara, A man at work spoke over me twice today and then repeated my point like it was his. Nobody made a scene. Nobody corrected it. The meeting just moved on in that cold efficient way these things happen, where the moment is too small to report and too sharp not to feel. I drove home angry. Then guilty for being angry. Then more angry because I know women do this all the time — carry small humiliations home in silence because the room never formally admitted they happened. That’s what I’m tired of. Not only the disrespect. The emotional cleanup afterward. The replaying. The self-checking. The effort of trying not to let one man’s dismissive tone stain dinner, bedtime, and the whole evening. Too often, it still does.
