I still want a softer version of them

Dear Delyara, I know my parents are who they are. I know their limits. I know their patterns. I know what they are unlikely to become now. And still, some part of me keeps wanting a softer version of them. More open. More curious. More emotionally aware. More able to meet me as I actually am instead of through old assumptions. I don’t know if that longing ever fully grows up.
