The BondParents
I still want the kind of understanding that arrives without translation
Dear Delyara, That longing is quieter now than it used to be. It is still alive. I don’t mean dramatic acceptance. I mean emotional fluency. The kind of care that reaches you directly, without having to pass through advice, concern disguised as criticism, or practical problem-solving before it becomes recognizable as tenderness. I know my parents cared in the language they had. I can honor that. And still feel the absence of another language. I think adulthood is partly learning that understanding someone’s limitations does not automatically dissolve the ache those limitations left in you. Both can coexist honestly.
