The BondParents
I still want them to understand a language they never learned
Dear Delyara, I know some of the things I still want from my parents are probably not coming. Not because they are cruel. Because they never learned that language. The language of direct emotional recognition. The language of asking twice. The language of softness without awkwardness. The language of seeing not only what I do, but how I carry it. I understand their limits more than I used to. The longing has not disappeared with the understanding. That is one of the quieter griefs of adulthood.
