I still want them to understand parts of me they may never reach

Dear Delyara, I think one of the hardest adult truths is accepting that some of what you still long for may never arrive in the exact form you need it. I understand my parents more than I used to. I see their limits. And still, some part of me keeps wanting them to understand certain rooms in me they have never really entered — my softness, my fear, my need for emotional language, the exact shape of what hurt. I don’t know if that wanting ever fully leaves. Maybe it just gets quieter and more private.
