I still wish emotional fluency had been part of the home

Dear Delyara, Some people grow up with emotional language built into ordinary life. I didn’t. And I think I still feel the absence of that more than I say out loud. Not because my parents did not care, but because care without fluency leaves certain rooms untouched. You can be loved and still feel emotionally untranslated in your own home. That has consequences. In how you ask. How you hide. How you endure. How much you think softness must be earned before it becomes available. I understand more now. But understanding doesn’t erase the hunger.
