My Diary

I stood at the sink and listened to the dishwasher like it was helping me breathe

Dear Delyara, The sound was steady. Contained. Predictable. No opinions. No requests. No emotional weather inside it. Just a machine doing one clear thing all the way through to completion. That soothed me more than I want to admit. Perhaps because so little in my life feels contained like that anymore. Everything is layered, interrupted, part-finished, emotionally loaded. The dishwasher wasn’t. It was just a clean sound in the background of one tired evening. I leaned against the counter and let it finish the cycle. That felt like company, somehow.
