I Stood in the Bathroom and Didn’t Turn the Light Off

Dear Delyara, I had already brushed my teeth. I had already washed my face. There was no reason left to stay. But I stayed anyway. Something about that bright bathroom, with the fan running and the door closed, felt safer than the rest of the house. Not happier. Safer. Like no one could ask me anything in there for one more minute. So I stood at the sink, staring at my own tired face, pretending I was looking for my moisturizer. Really, I just needed a room with no emotional demands in it. For sixty more seconds. That’s where I’m at.
