My Diary

I stood in the bathroom and realized the whole day had been too loud

Dear Delyara, Not loud in the obvious sense. There was no concert, no shouting, no chaos dramatic enough to deserve the word. But the day had been loud in that subtler modern way — too many voices, too many small digital entrances into my attention, too many emotional adjustments, too many moments where my system had to absorb tone, urgency, implication, and expectation all at once. I only understood this when I shut the bathroom door and heard the sudden absence of all of it. That’s when I realized how much sound I had been carrying in my body. How much of my irritability was not sadness, not even stress exactly, but overstimulation disguised as personality. I wish I noticed sooner on days like this. Maybe then I would need less repair at night. Maybe then the evening wouldn’t have to work so hard to return me to myself. Still, I noticed. And tonight that noticing feels like its own small act of mercy.
