My Diary

I Stood in the Pantry and Forgot Why I Went There

Dear Delyara, For a full ten seconds, maybe longer. Just stood there looking at cereal boxes, canned soup, pasta, crackers, peanut butter, and had no idea what I had meant to get. The thought was gone. Not hidden. Gone. Then it came back. Pasta sauce. But those ten seconds stayed with me. Because it wasn’t just forgetfulness. It was crowding. Too much mental traffic. Too many open tabs in the brain. The kind of overload that doesn’t always look dramatic from the outside but leaves a woman standing in a pantry feeling strangely fragile over a jar of sauce. I laughed when I remembered. Then I didn’t. Because honestly, it wasn’t that funny.
