My Diary
I stood outside the bathroom door and listened to the shower
Dear Delyara, It was my daughter inside, and for a second I just stood there listening to the water because it was the only uninterrupted sound in the house. No one was asking anything. No television. No kettle. No phone. Just water. It struck me then how rarely there is any sound in my life that isn’t also a demand. Everything means something, needs something, points to the next thing. The shower was different. It was just sound. I stayed there a little longer than necessary before walking away. That probably says something about my nervous system.
