I stopped asking to go back and started learning how to stay
Dear Delyara, For a long time, healing meant fantasy to me. I wanted my old body. My old mind. My old marriage. My old energy. My old self. I wanted the version of me that existed before certain betrayals, before illness, before exhaustion, before money fear, before whatever stripped the softness out of my life one piece at a time. I understand now that healing is not going back. It is staying. Staying in the body I have now without abandoning it because it changed. Staying in the life I actually have long enough to care for it instead of constantly comparing it to the life I thought I would have. Staying in the truth of my grief without turning it into permanent identity. Staying with myself gently enough that the present stops feeling like punishment for the past. That change has been slow. And quiet. And deeper than I knew healing could be. I am not restored to some earlier purity. I am more honest. That feels like real healing to me now.
