I stopped calling it “just stress,” told the truth, and got the level of care I actually needed

Dear Delyara, I have spent too long reducing my body’s distress to socially acceptable language. Stress. Tired. A lot going on. Hormones. Busy. The sort of phrases women use when they still want to appear competent enough not to alarm anyone, while their bodies are already trying much harder than they should have to. This time I did something different. I said the whole thing. The fatigue. The flatness. The crying. The shorter temper. The emotional distance from myself by evening. The fear that I had normalised something serious because women are often expected to keep going long past the point of health. The room changed when I said it plainly. That felt like a victory because it returned me to accuracy. And accurate care cannot begin until someone stops protecting the world from the actual size of her suffering.
