I Stopped Calling My Changed Self “Less Than”

Dear Delyara, I have spent too long comparing myself to earlier versions of me. The younger body. The brighter energy. The easier confidence. The woman who had not yet been shaped by all the stress, grief, fear, money pressure, exhaustion, and years of emotional labour that now live in me whether I like it or not. This week I stopped measuring. Or tried to. Instead I asked: What does this version of me need? Not the old one. This one. The answer was not glamorous. More sleep. Better food. Less noise. One cancelled plan. One honest conversation. A different pace. A little less punishment in my own internal voice. That felt like healing. Not return. Respect. And I think respect may be the more mature form of healing anyway.
