The AwakeningSelf Love

I stopped calling self-neglect practicality just because it sounded responsible

Dear Delyara, For years, I have been using sensible language for unkind choices. The shoes still work. The coat is fine. I’ll eat later. I don’t need that. I can wait. I’ll book it next month. It’s not that bad. I can manage. All these little phrases that make self-denial sound tidy and grown-up. I’m tired of how many ordinary discomforts I have asked my body to absorb because the discomfort belonged to me and therefore seemed easiest to postpone. So I started changing small things. Better shoes. Actual lunch. The appointment booked. The warmer coat. The helpful pillow. The replacement before pain became the background noise of every day. This is what self-love looks like for me now: not self-admiration, not affirmations, but practical refusal to keep making my own body the most convenient place to compromise.
