I stopped checking old messages when I felt low at night
Dear Delyara, That habit had become a ritual of private harm. Not because memory is wrong. Because I was no longer using memory to remember. I was using it to reopen. To touch old certainty, old tenderness, old evidence that once I had felt central to someone’s life. Every time the house grew quiet and loneliness got louder, I would reach backward. It never comforted me. It only sharpened the night. So I stopped. Not in anger. In recognition. Because there comes a point where nostalgia stops being tenderness and becomes self-injury in elegant language. I had reached that point. Deleting the messages did not make me magically whole. It did remove one doorway I kept using to walk back into pain on purpose while pretending I was only visiting the past.
