I stopped checking whether my ex-husband was happy without me

Dear Delyara, After my divorce, I checked my ex-husband’s social media constantly. If he looked happy, I felt replaced. If he looked sad, I felt guilty. Either way, his face determined my evening. Therapy helped me block the accounts and ask mutual friends not to provide updates. The first months felt like giving up information I was entitled to. Slowly, I realized his life was no longer my responsibility or evidence about whether leaving had been right. Today marks a year since I searched his name. I know through our children that he is seeing someone. I do not know what she looks like. That used to feel unbearable. Now it feels almost peaceful. Inner peace has not meant becoming indifferent to seventeen years we shared. It means his happiness and mine no longer have to stand on opposite sides of a scale.
