The AwakeningSelf Love

I stopped letting my own needs be the first thing I cut

Dear Delyara, It did not happen dramatically. It happened in a supermarket, in a pharmacy, in front of a shoe shelf, in little weekly decisions where I noticed how quickly I always moved to deny myself first. The cheaper shampoo. The uncomfortable bra. The lunch I told myself I didn’t really need. The appointment I postponed. The coat I kept making do with. The shoes that hurt. I started asking one question: Why is my own body always the easiest place to economise? That question changed something. Not overnight. But steadily. I replaced the things that were making my life meaner in ordinary ways. I booked the appointment. I ate before I got shaky. I bought the warmer coat. I stopped calling self-neglect practicality just because it was tidy and familiar. I think self-love, at this stage of life, is less about confidence and more about refusing to keep treating yourself as the cheapest line in the family budget.
