The AwakeningSelf Love

I stopped offering my body the cheapest version of care

Dear Delyara, This change did not begin with a grand revelation. It began with shoes. I had been wearing the same pair far too long. They hurt by midday, but I kept calling them “fine” because they still looked acceptable and because, like so many women, I had quietly trained myself to treat my own discomfort as negotiable if there was money pressure elsewhere. Then one day I got tired of hearing myself use practicality as the language of self-neglect. So I bought the shoes that actually support me. Then a better bra. Then I stopped skipping lunch. Then I booked the appointment I kept postponing. Then I replaced small daily cruelties with tolerable comforts one by one. That is what self-love has become for me now. Not self-admiration. Refusing to keep making my own body the easiest place to economise.
