I stopped pretending I could carry all of it alone

Dear Delyara, I am very good at coping quietly. Too good. I take things on, smooth over the cracks, figure it out, stay late if needed, and then later feel angry that no one noticed I was sinking. But of course they didn’t notice. I turned drowning into competence. This time I did something different. I said I needed help. Clearly. Early enough. Before resentment got in and poisoned the whole thing. That felt much healthier than proving I could survive one more impossible load. I think I’m finally learning that silent over-functioning is not the same as strength.
