I Stopped Talking to Myself Like Recovery Should Have Already Made Me Easier By Now

Dear Delyara, That voice is cruel in such respectable language. You should be further along. You should handle this better. You should be calmer. You should be over this. You should know by now. You should not still be this affected. This week, I finally noticed how much violence there is in “should” when it is turned against a tired healing self. So I stopped. Or I tried to. I replaced it with a different question: What is true now? Not what should be true. What is. That shift changed the whole inner weather. Because healing is not made gentler by being insulted into speed. My body knows that. My mind is learning.
