I stopped treating my own comfort like the easiest place to save money and prove maturity
Dear Delyara, I had been doing that for years without fully naming it. The worse shoes. The skipped lunch. The delayed appointment. The old pillow. The coat that “still works.” The cheaper thing that keeps hurting. I framed all of it as being sensible, but what I was really doing was sending my own body the same message over and over: you are the negotiable part. I got tired of hearing that message in my own choices. So I changed the practical details. And the practical details changed me back. Not because comfort solves everything. But because repeated disregard teaches the body something too. I no longer want my own body to keep learning that it comes last in every budget, every schedule, every threshold of acceptable pain. Self-love, for me now, is not a mood. It is a set of material decisions that say: I do not have to earn gentleness.
