I Stopped Trying to Earn Rest Through Collapse and Let Myself Pause While Still Upright
Dear Delyara, For years, rest has had to come with justification. Illness. Near tears. Obvious exhaustion. A body too far gone to keep pretending. Only then did I allow myself the pause, as if stopping required evidence dramatic enough to satisfy some inner court that had been taught women must prove depletion before they deserve relief. This week I rested sooner. Not because I was done. Because I wasn’t. And because I finally understood that if rest only arrives after damage, then it is not really care — it is repair after neglect. So I stopped while still upright. Still functional. Still in time. That felt like healing in the truest possible way. Not glamorous. Preventative. And deeply kind.
