The AwakeningSelf Love

I stopped using practicality as the language of self-neglect

Dear Delyara, For years, I called it being sensible. The cheaper shampoo, the shoes that still technically worked even though they hurt, the bra I hated, the lunch I skipped, the appointment I postponed, the extra layer I didn’t buy because “I can make do.” I am tired of making do in my own body. So I changed the story. Not overnight, and not expensively, but steadily. I replaced the things that made daily life meaner in ordinary ways. I stopped treating my comfort like the easiest line in the budget to cut. I stopped framing every small care choice for myself as indulgence. It sounds practical. It is. That’s exactly why it matters. Self-love at this age is not a feeling for me. It’s daily material refusal to keep living as if I matter least.
