I stopped waiting for my sister to apologize

Dear Delyara, My sister and I have been estranged for nine years after a betrayal involving money and family. For most of that time, I imagined one future conversation where she would finally understand what she did and apologize properly. I checked her social media, asked relatives what she said about me, and mentally rehearsed my response. Therapy helped me see that I had built my peace around an event she might never provide. I stopped checking her pages. I asked relatives not to bring updates unless there was a genuine emergency. Today marks one year since I last searched her name. She has not apologized. Nothing has been resolved between us. Yet my life is quieter. Inner peace did not come from deciding she was right or that what happened no longer mattered. It came from no longer requiring another person to say the correct sentence before I allowed my own nervous system to stop waiting at the door.
