The AwakeningSelf Love

I stopped waiting to deserve recovery and booked the break anyway

Dear Delyara, For months I had been saying the same thing to myself: after this week, after this payment, after this deadline, after the house is calmer, after the children settle, after work becomes less mad, after I’ve earned it properly. The break kept moving further away because the conditions for deserving it were never fully met. Last Thursday I sat in my car after work and felt how hard I had become inside my own life. Not stronger. Harder. Less patient, less easy to soothe, less available even to myself. I opened my phone, booked two nights away for the end of next month, and paid for it before the stricter part of me could start its usual courtroom speech. It is not a luxury spa. It’s a small place by the sea with plain rooms and a kettle. But the point is that I stopped treating recovery like a medal to be awarded by exhaustion. I chose it while I was still only thinning out, not yet collapsed. That feels like self-love in the most adult way I know: timely, expensive, and very practical.
