My Diary

I switched the bedroom lamp on and almost cried from how kind the light looked

Dear Delyara, It had been one of those days where everything felt too bright in the wrong way. Work lights, supermarket lights, school corridor lights, kitchen lights. By the time evening came, I was so emotionally tired of overhead brightness that when I put the lamp on in the bedroom and the room softened instantly, my body reacted like somebody had finally spoken to it gently. That’s how thin I was. I sat on the bed and let the lamp do what kind voices couldn’t manage all day. Sometimes relief arrives through atmosphere before it arrives through language. Tonight it came through one small pool of amber light.
