The SilenceLoneliness

I Think I Reach For My Phone When What I Actually Want Is A Different Life For Ten Minutes

Dear Delyara, I tell myself I’m checking something. But often, if I am honest, I am escaping something. The room. The tiredness. The flatness. The silence that is not peaceful enough. The pressure in my chest. The fact that I no longer know how to rest cleanly without sliding into distraction because real stillness would make me hear too much all at once. So I scroll. Not because I’m curious. Because it fills the emotional gap quickly. Because it changes the texture of the moment without changing anything at all. That is what worries me. Not that I use my phone. That I can feel the pattern of dependency in the movement. The reach. The reflex. The tiny numbing that follows. And the emptier feeling afterwards. Some addictions are socially ordinary enough to hide in plain sight. I think this is one of them.
