I Think My Family Sometimes Meets the Strong Version of Me So Often
Dear Delyara, That is one of the loneliest things about being the reliable one. I know how to keep going. I know how to make dinner while worried. I know how to answer while overstimulated. I know how to carry pain privately and still make the room run. So often, the house experiences me through capability first. What it experiences less often is my fear. My fragility. My confusion. Not because they aren’t there. Because the structure of family life doesn’t always make much room for them unless they become obvious enough to stop everything. And by then, I am already too far gone. I want more ordinary tenderness than that. Not rescue only when I’m nearly breaking. Care while I’m still upright. Witness before emergency. That longing has become clearer to me. And sadder.
